The frame grabs above were chosen either because she looked especially nice, or to accent how she was somewhat offbeat. (Hard to describe in short, not your run-of-the-mill heroine.) It wasn't just the way she performed, if the episode I watched was an indication (other than being the private eye's occasional lover, the character Gretchen played was Rockford's attorney - only in her debut episode, the roles were reversed Gretchen hired Rockford to investigate for a client she was defending), there was something out-of-the-ordinary about her. Gretchen Corbett is a lady who obviously looked good. As Member "Wendigo" put it when he began this thread in 2008 (and Wendigo obviously kept demonstrating his appreciation of the actress by presenting numerous screen caps, mainly from Rockford check out page three - it's all Wendigo), "Wonder how many of you have even heard of her, never mind remember her." The leading lady of this episode (whose IMDb bio claimed that in real life Garner served as her "acting mentor") was one I wasn't familiar with by name. I was watching the second episode of the first season of The Rockford Files from 1974 (our lady appeared in thirty-three episodes of this program until 1978, and also in three Rockford TV movies, 1996-1999), and was reminded of how well suited Jim Garner was to play the role.
